Wilmar Pabón

Wilmar Pabón is a Colombian contemporary artist based in the United States whose practice explores memory, transformation, and the connections that emerge between fragments, experiences, and territories.

 

His artistic research develops through a dialogue between different pictorial languages, from representation to abstraction and the exploration of movement. Within this journey, he developed Descomponiendo (2002), an investigation into fragmentation and the reconstruction of the image, leading to a parallel exploration that converges with Canvollage, his own artistic language, allowing him to navigate across different artistic movements and pictorial experiences while creating new relationships through color, texture, and composition.

 

Through his work, Pabón understands the fragment as a living memory: an element that preserves its own history, yet can acquire new meaning when it encounters others and becomes part of a larger reality.

 

His practice expands into projects where art engages with identity, community, and cultural heritage. He is currently developing The Golden Fruit Project, an artistic and cultural investigation that uses the orange as a symbol to explore the history, nature, and collective memory of Florida.

His journey between Colombia and the United States reflects an ongoing dialogue between his roots and the territories that have enriched his artistic vision. Colombia remains at the root of his creative sensibility—an identity that continues to grow through cultural exchange and through the stories he encounters in each place.

 

For Pabón, creating is an act of connection: between past and present, between fragments and wholeness, between personal memory and collective stories.
