I am the orange.

 

But my story is not only about a fruit. It is a story about land, water, agriculture, labor, migration, communities, memory, and the people who have helped shape Florida.

 

For generations, I have traveled from the grove to the table, from rural communities to cities, and from Florida to places far beyond its borders. Along the way, I have witnessed a changing landscape and become part of the cultural memory of a place.

 

The Golden Fruit Project was created to tell that story through art, through painting, sculpture, photography, installation, research, education, and community participation, the project invites us to look beyond the orange itself and discover the stories connected to it.

 

This is an artistic journey through Florida’s natural heritage, cultural heritage, and collective memory. It is an invitation to look again at something familiar and discover that there is much more beneath the surface.

 

The story of the orange is, in many ways, a story of Florida.
